“The Invention of Wings”

Author of the novel, “The Invention of Wings” belongs to pre-feminist American family. So in his novels, he basically writes about the females and their lives. There are many characters in this Novel who are really sympathetic. But the character whom I identified most is Sarah Grimke, who is basically a real-life character. Just like her, my personality is also very friendly and I love to guide and teach others, but unfortunately my life is enormously limited despite having every facility in home. I belong to such family in which women are supposed to be suppressed and people have cultural expectations from them. Like her I also have dreams to fly with the wings to enjoy the life but initially we are suffering because in this American society women are believed to be the slave of husband or father. They don’t have any desires or feelings of their own. There is a scene in the novel when Sarah is crying for father who is dying at shore and was walking alone on the waves of water felling so isolated. There was another scene in this novel where author showed Sarah talking to her inner voice who is insisting her to go to North. Such voices go on and on in her mind but wasn’t able to speak up loud what she was thinking even in her house where she born and grown up. These lines show that she knows very well about her worth in her house.
